Cookie Policy

What Ascrivia keeps in your browser, and why. It’s a short list.

The short version

  • Ascrivia sets no cookies of its own, and uses no advertising, analytics or tracking tools.
  • Your browser keeps a few things for Ascrivia: your sign-in, your appearance and settings, and unsaved writing.
  • Cloudflare may set short-lived security cookies to keep bots out.
  • You can clear all of it in your browser’s settings at any time.

The summary is here to help. The full text below is what applies.

1.Cookies and browser storage

Cookies are small files a website asks your browser to keep. Browsers also have other places a site can keep information, called local storage and IndexedDB. This policy covers all of them, and explains what Ascrivia keeps and why.

2.No tracking, no ads

Ascrivia doesn’t set any cookies of its own, and it doesn’t use advertising, analytics or tracking tools of any kind, from us or from anyone else. Nothing on our pages follows you around the web.

That’s why you don’t see a cookie banner here. Everything Ascrivia keeps in your browser is needed for a feature you’re using, and stays on your device. It isn’t used to build a profile of you.

3.What Ascrivia keeps in your browser

Ascrivia uses your browser’s local storage and IndexedDB for these things:

What it’s forWhat’s keptNames
Keeping you signed inProof that you signed in, so you don’t have to sign in again on every visit. Removed when you sign out.ascrivia-auth
Unsaved writingA copy of changes that haven’t reached our server yet, so a dropped connection or a closed tab doesn’t cost you words. Cleared once they’re saved.ascrivia-unsynced:*
AppearanceLight or dark mode, your theme, and the packs you’ve put on from the Stationer, so pages open looking the way you left them.ascrivia-theme, ascrivia-appearance, ascrivia-packs
Writing and reading settingsEditor preferences, reader settings, and where you stopped in each book.ascrivia-preferences, ascrivia:reader-prefs, ascrivia:reader-progress:*
Notices you’ve seenWhich announcements and one-time notices you’ve already read or closed, and which ink you’ve already been shown, so they don’t keep coming back.ascrivia:dismissed-announcement, ascrivia-read-notice:*, ascrivia:ink-seen:*

This information stays until you sign out, clear it, or it’s no longer needed. Your projects and account live on our servers, as described in the Privacy Policy, not in your browser.

4.Cookies from Cloudflare

Cloudflare, which delivers and protects Ascrivia, may set strictly necessary security cookies, such as __cf_bm or cf_clearance, when it checks whether a visitor is a person or an automated bot. They don’t identify you, aren’t used for advertising, and expire within a short time. Cloudflare’s cookie policy explains them in more detail.

5.Links to other sites

Some links, like “Support the project”, take you to other websites such as Buy Me a Coffee. Those sites have their own cookies and policies, which apply once you’re there.

6.Clearing it

You can see and clear what Ascrivia keeps through your browser’s settings, usually under privacy or site data. Clearing it is safe, but it will sign you out, reset your appearance and settings, and lose any changes that hadn’t reached our server yet.

If your browser blocks site storage completely, for example in some private windows, Ascrivia can’t keep you signed in and will tell you so.

7.Changes to this policy

If we ever add a cookie or storage that isn’t strictly needed for a feature you’re using, we’ll update this page and ask for your permission first where the law requires. Questions? Email hello@ascrivia.com.
