- What is Ascrivia?
- Ascrivia is a writing app for books, with a community of writers around it. You write, plan and revise a manuscript in your browser, invite friends to read along and leave private notes, and export the finished draft or publish it in the Ascrivia Library. See the features.
- Is Ascrivia free?
- Yes. There's no card and no trial. Your projects and every writing, planning and export tool are free, along with sharing drafts with friends, groups, sprints, challenges, publishing, and every built-in theme, font and sound. New packs of themes, companions and sounds come from the Stationer, Ascrivia's own shop, and cost ink you earn by writing, never money. Some might cost money later, as extras on top of all that.
- Who can read my writing?
- Only you, until you share it. You can share a project with friends you choose, as readers, commenters or co-writers, for every chapter or just some, or publish it. Notes and research are never shared, and your profile never shows your manuscript's text. How sharing works.
- Will my published book show up on Google?
- Only if you choose to recommend it when you publish (or later, from the book's page). Recommended books, and their writer's profile, can be listed by search engines. Books you publish without recommending them stay out of search results, and unlisted books are never recommended or listed.
- Can I import my Scrivener project?
- Yes. Ascrivia imports Scrivener 3 and Scrivener 2 projects, zipped or as a folder, with the binder, text and formatting, synopses, notes, status and labels. You can also bring in Word documents (.docx) and Ascrivia's own .quill backups. Moving from Scrivener.
- What can I export to?
- Word (.docx), PDF, EPUB, Markdown, a single web page (.html) and plain text. You can also download any project as a .quill backup whenever you like. Export and publish.
- Can two people write the same book?
- Yes. Share a project with a friend as a co-writer and you both write in it at the same time, seeing each other's caret and new words as you type. Each writer has their own undo, and changes never overwrite each other. Writing together.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No. Ascrivia runs in a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari, on a Mac, a Windows PC or a Chromebook, with a compact layout for phones and tablets. Projects save to your account as you write.
- What happens if my connection drops?
- Ascrivia keeps your unsaved changes in the browser on that device and saves them to your account once it can. Snapshots of your scenes keep earlier versions too.
- Does Ascrivia have word count goals and writing sprints?
- Yes: a daily word goal across every project, timed sprints from the editor, group sprints, and challenges with a word goal between two dates that count your words as you write. Keepsakes count only words you type, so revising never takes one away. Goals and sprints.
- What are groups?
- Groups gather writers around a genre or a habit. Each has threads with nested replies, its own rules and moderators, and can run a critique exchange, beta reader requests, group sprints and weekly threads. Every writer starts in the Writers' Room.
