Goals and sprints

A book is a lot of sittings. Make each one count.

Ascrivia keeps the habit visible without nagging: a daily word goal, sprints when you need a push, challenges to share with other writers, and keepsakes that celebrate showing up rather than punishing a missed day.

A daily word goal

One goal across every project, chosen when you start or from your desk. A strip above the page shows today's words against it and the week as dots.

Sprints

Start a timed sprint from the editor's toolbar and write without stopping. Share how it went when the timer ends, if you like.

Group sprints

Groups can plan a sprint for a time. Members say they're going, get a reminder just before, and the words each writer types go on the sprint's board.

Challenges

A word goal between two dates, open to everyone or to one group. Progress counts itself as you write, across all your projects.

Counting that’s fair to revision

  • Goals, challenges and keepsakes count the words you type in Ascrivia. Pasting, importing or restoring a snapshot never earns one, so the numbers mean something.
  • Cutting words never costs you anything. Revising a chapter down doesn’t take back a keepsake or set back a challenge.
  • Days follow your own calendar, so evening writing counts for today.
  • In a book written with a co-writer, each writer’s typed words are kept apart.

Keepsakes for showing up

Twenty-nine keepsakes for milestones, habits, community and helping other writers, three of them secret. Habit keepsakes count the days you wrote, not days in a row, so there’s no streak to break. Reach a challenge’s goal and your friends hear about it.

The Campfire companion keeps you company too: it starts as embers, grows into a campfire after three days in a row and a bonfire after seven, flares when you save and cheers when you reach your goal.

A record of how the book was written

The editor keeps a record of each day’s writing: words typed, words pasted or brought in, sittings and minutes. Never the text itself. When you publish, you can choose to show it on the book’s page: days of writing, sittings, hours, and how much was typed in Ascrivia.

Tonight’s a good night to start.

Set a goal you can keep, and let the words add up.
